The Hounds’ came into tonight’s game with a must win attitude after they struggled to find any sort of running success last time out against the Snipes, when they saw themselves get blown out by a score of 8-2. Tonight the Hounds’ were on the winning half of an 8-3 blowout, which saw the boys from DuPage put up a booming five runs in the first. The Wednesday night win was undoubtedly a team effort as eight out of the nine Hounds’ batsmen contributed at least one hit to the team total of ten, while the pitching did a great job keeping men off base as they only allowed seven hits over the nine frames.

 

The speedy Joe Duncan found himself back atop the Hounds’ lineup for the first time in a few weeks where he lead his team in hits with three singles in his five plate appearances. He also stole two more bags tonight, which moves his season total to a team high 11.

 

Hunter Morris hit out of the two-hole for the first time this season where he picked up a single in his four attempts. Bobby Wenthe and newcomer Mike Kornacker also went one for four with a single, however they both picked up two RBIs throughout the contest.

 

The Carrier brothers locked down the three and four holes with Trent hitting third, where he went one for five with a single and two runs batted in. Shane reached base twice in the game, walking once and singling once during his five trips to the dish.

 

The five-six holes were made up of the two sure-handed middle infielders Ryan Fitzgerald and Matt Wollnik. Fitzgerald went one for five with a single and a RBI and Wollnik reached twice in his five at bats on a walk and a single.

 

Danny Riley started on the mound tonight for the Hounds, making only his second appearance in a DuPage uniform this season. He contributed a solid seven innings in which he gave up only one run on three hits. Trent Carrier came in to throw the last two frames in which he surrendered two runs on two hits while striking out one.

 

For Lexington, Neal Tyrell and Owen Miller lead the way with two hits while Deion Thompson, Tanner Russell and Cale Robinson each contributed a hit of their own, rounding out the Snipes’ seven total hits.

 

Noah Lamboley was the Snipe that was handed the loss in which he gave up six earned runs in five innings on seven hits while striking out four. Marty Mennenga and Cully Day came on in relief and each were tagged for one run. Kody Silverthorn threw two innings, allowing no runs on no hits while striking out one.

The Hounds’ next game will be Thursday, July 2nd at 7:00 PM (CT) against their biggest season rival, the Northwest Indiana Oilmen at Oilmen Stadium. The Oilmen currently lead the season series three games to one but the Hounds’ own the most important bragging rights and that is that they sit atop the Midwest Collegiate League standings with a record of 13-6. However, the Oilmen are not far behind with a record of 12-6, meaning Thursday’s game could provide us with a shift in the MCL standings.
