Gorski Provides at Plate, in Field, Hounds Stay Undefeated

By:

Richie Gorski tripled twice and started the game-ending double play, as the DuPage County Hounds remained undefeated after a 6-3 road win over the Northwest Indiana Oilmen.

Gorski was hitless on the year coming into Oil City Stadium, but with one out and a runner on first in the top of the 3rd, he socked the first pitch from NWI starter Danny Probereyko into the right field corner, plating Frankie Perrone. Gorski then came home on Alex Cain’s sacrifice fly to make it 5-2 for the Hounds (5-0).

The score remained stagnant until the top of the 8th inning. Gorski lined a second triple off Cameron Linck past a diving Rob Blissitt in right field. Perrone scored again to make it 6-2, but Gorski was thrown out trying to stretch it into an inside-the-park home run.

The Oilmen (3-3) rallied in the bottom of the 9th off Trent Carrier. Kevin DeFilippis and Ryan Burvan laced one-out singles, and Jason Gasser drove in a run on a line drive single off the field umpire. The Hounds held on as third baseman Gorski took hold of Nate Schneider’s grounder, stepped on the bag, and fired over to first for the game-ending twin-killer.

Tomas Michelson picked up his first win of the season by virtue of his 5-inning, 2-run, 4-hit start. He walked 3 and struck out 6 in an up-and-down outing.

NWI took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st when DeFilippis and Burvan scored from second and third on a wild pitch. The Hounds responded in the top of the 2nd as Gorski drew a one-out wakl, stole second, and scored on Cain’s RBI single. Cain then stole second and came home two batters later on a Drew Sterioti double. Clayton Johannes capped the inning with an RBI single and his own stolen base.

The Hounds stole four bases in the game on five attempts, giving them 22 swipes in 27 attempts through five games.

Michelson got out of jams in the 3rd and 5th innings, stranding two and three men in the frames respectively. The Oilmen left 10 men on base over the course of the evening.

Chase Thurston rebounded from two rough outings and put together two scoreless innings for the Hounds, and Carrier finished up the 8th and the 9th.

The Hounds return home for a three-game Teacher Appreciation Weekend homestand. Their first pitch Friday night against the Joliet Admirals will be thrown at 7:00.
