The Hounds came into tonight’s game against the Lexington Snipes (0-3) looking to win their fourth straight game to start the season and they did not disappoint. It was safe to say that we had quite the pitching duel on our hands, as the final score was a mere 1-0, in favor of the Hounds. Between the two teams, there were only a total of nine hits thanks to the gusty win that virtually knocked down every ball that was hit in play. The final box score ended up looking like it came from a game in mid March instead of a early June.

Fans in attendance got to see another fantastic Hounds’ pitching performance at the hand of Nick Alfini. The crafty lefty took the mound for the first time this season and he had no trouble finding his spots, as he only allowed two hits over seven innings while striking out five batters. Alfini did a great job pitching to contact, knowing that tonight’s wind might be his best defender.

Trent Carrier finished off the last two innings in relief where he wrapped up the Hounds’ first save of the year. Carrier too took the mound for the first time this year and his command was also spot on. The product of California did not allow any hits in the final two innings while finishing off the Snipes in only 29 pitches.

The offensive hero tonight was newcomer Zac Taylor, the center fielder from the University of Houston who is fresh off the Cougar’s NCAA tournament run. He took command of the order by batting lead off, where he went three for four with three singles and a stolen base.

The game winning RBI came at the hand of second baseman Dustin Krob, who shot a line drive to center field, scoring Johnny Peltz, who went one for three with a single and also stole his first base of the season.

The only other Hound to put a notch in the hit column was tonight’s closer Trent Carrier, who went two for three with two singles.

For Lexington, their starting pitcher Brett Fanning pitched a great game despite being handed the loss. The Snipes’ pitcher surrendered one run over seven innings, allowing six hits. Tim Smyk came in to pitch the last inning where he gave up no runs and only one hit. Cully Day and Deion Thompson were the only Snipes’ batsman to snag hits tonight.

The Hounds’ (4-0) next game is tomorrow at 1:00 PM (CT) at the Lemont High School Sports Complex against the Northwest Indiana Oilmen (3-1) who currently sit in second place, one game behind the Hounds.
